HUNTINGTON BEACH – City Council members will discuss changing an ordinance to allow some exceptions to a ban on sex offenders in city parks. The council will meet on Tuesday to discuss allowing Police Chief Kenneth Small to make exemptions to the rule based on his discretion, according to city reports.
The changes come on the heels of a lawsuit filed in October, naming Huntington Beach and other Orange County cities, which says that the ordinances that ban sex offenders from parks and other public areas are unconstitutional. Full Article
No! Total repeal and nothing else!
Very disturbing. No one should be banned from any park, unless maybe they are on probation or parole. I literally (this is hypothetical) could be a cyclist who is very avid and I (Could) cycle to the Seal Beach Pier on a regular basis and along the coast to Huntington Beach at least once or twice a week. Am I breaking the law? Furthermore, I have children and I can now not visit the beach? Thats surreal. I broke the law almost 20 years ago/didn’t involve a minor and murderer’s, drunk drivers who have killed people and gang members going around with assault rifles or guns have more rights! Get with the program Huntington Beach!
I broke the law also almost 20 years ago which I do regret, but it was a low level offense which did not involve kids or violence to anyone of anykind and I am a
business man and a avid bike rider and have been going into parks for a long time simply to enjoy them and not with any malintent whatsoever and now I’m being told I
can’t go into one, I really can’t understand what is the difference between then and now, it is really stupid to ban people that are not a threat to anyone and it is unconstitutional, how long do people have to pay for stupid mistakes of the past.
Obviously the people who have a serious problem when going into parks should be barred, why not take each case individually to actually find out if someone is a
threat to people instead of throwing everyone into one catagory bolstering societies bogeyman or are people really so scared that they are willing to give up
rights and freedom for protection, 1984 does’nt just affect the ones who have broke
the law it will eventually affect everyone.
